Topological susceptibility from the overlap

چکیده
The chiral symmetry at finite lattice spacing of Ginsparg-Wilson fermionic actions constrains the renormalization of the lattice operators; in particular, the topological susceptibility does not require any renormalization, when using a fermionic estimator to define the topological charge. Therefore, the overlap formalism appears as an appealing candidate to study the continuum limit of the topological susceptibility while keeping the systematic errors under theoretical control. We present results for the SU(3) pure gauge theory using the index of the overlap Dirac operator to study the topology of the gauge configurations. The topological charge is obtained from the zero modes of the overlap and using a new algorithm for the spectral flow analysis. A detailed comparison with cooling techniques is presented. Particular care is taken in assessing the systematic errors. Relatively high statistics (500 to 1000 independent configurations) yield an extrapolated continuum limit with errors that are comparable with other methods. Our current value from the overlap is χ = 188± 12± 5MeV.

Unquenching the Topological Susceptibility with an Overlap Action
We estimate the quark-mass dependence of the topological susceptibility with dynamical overlap and clover fermions. Unquenching effects on the susceptibility turn out to be well approximated by a reweighting of a quenched ensemble with a low-eigenmode truncation of the fermionic determinant. We find that it is most likely due to the explicit chiral symmetry breaking of the fermion action that p...
متن کاملTowards the Topological Susceptibility with Overlap Fermions
Using a reweighting technique combined with a low-mode truncation of the fermionic determinant, we estimate the quark-mass dependence of the QCD topological susceptibility with overlap fermions. In contrast to previous lattice simulations which all used non-chiral fermions, our results appear to be consistent with the simple continuum model of Dürr. This indicates that at current lattice spacin...
متن کاملTopology with Dynamical Overlap Fermions
We perform dynamical QCD simulations with nf = 2 overlap fermions by hybrid Monte-Carlo method on 64 to 83 × 16 lattices. We study the problem of topological sector changing. A new method is proposed which works without topological sector changes. We use this new method to determine the topological susceptibility at various quark masses.
متن کاملThe Overlap Formalism and Topological Susceptibility on the Lattice ∗
Two recent methods[1,2] for measuring the topological susceptibility, χt = 〈Q〉 V , in pure SU(2) gauge theory using the lattice regularization are considered to be in disagreement. In one method[1], the gauge fields are smoothed with an improved cooling technique while the topological charge Q is calculated using a lattice discretization. In the other method[2], inverse-blocking is employed to ...
متن کاملTopological Susceptibility and Zero Mode Size in Lattice QCD
In this proceedings, we summarize our work on the determination of the topological susceptibility and zero mode size distribution of SU(2) and SU(3) gauge fields using the overlap formalism. Most of this work has appeared in print [1]. We will focus here on new results which are extensions of the published work, namely the topological susceptibility for SU(2) pure gauge theory, the zero mode si...
